Lot-et-Garonne
Lot-et-Garonne is an area deriving its name from the two rivers, Lot and Garonne.  From the perspective of the British tourist it is, perhaps, a little "off the map", but is in fact as rich in diversity as its better-known neighbour, Dordogne.  The principal town is Agen, which is well served by motorway to both Bordeaux and Tolouse.  The department is about the size of the counties of Hertfordshire and Essex combined, but with just  a tenth of the population!  Agen has a historic museum, some good river walks (and boat trips) and a large shopping centre.  Some other notable places to visit in the region are:

Beauville - a lovely village with 16th Century origins - great place for walking.

Cordes-sur-Ciel - 14th Century village on a steep hill (this will keep you fit) There are some delightful views to be had.  The village market is held each Saturday and is worth a visit.
