The varied landscape of Haute-Loire makes it the outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and climbing are all available here, and there is plenty of sightseeing with many renaissance churches. Le Puy-en-Velay is the administrative capital of this region, and is famed for its green lentils.
The town of Brioude is known as the gateway to the gorges of Allier, and boasts the largest Romanesque church of Auvergne, St. Julien's Basilica.
Yssingeaux, another notable town of the area with its volcanic gorges provides spectacular scenery all year round, and skiing in the winter months.
