Dordogne is the modern name for the ancient district of Périgord.
For the French, the name Périgord
is not so ancient, and most still refer to the region by that name.
Dordogne has become something of a haven for Brits settling in France, to the extent that it has often been referred to as 'Dordogneshire', but it nonetheless retains its French character and charm.
Sharp ravines, gorges and stunning rock formations make this region a delight for walking, cycling or just driving around.
Famed for its truffles and fois gras, it's not a bad place to eat, either!
